Nous sommes ravis de participer pour la première fois au salon des livres rares & arts graphiques, qui se tiendra du 22 au 24 septembre au Grand Palais Éphémère.
Nous présenterons une sélection de livres japonais des années 70 qui ont été rapidement et simplement conçus, pour la plupart juste agrafés et imprimés de façon peu onéreuse, avec la photocopie par exemple, le but étant d'être publiés le plus rapidement possible après la fin de la série. Un catalogue de ces titres sera réalisé dans le même esprit.
En opposition, nous proposerons des livres Japonais de cette même période grands formats et luxueusement fabriqué avec un design étudié.
Le livre le plus emblématique de cette confrontation pourrait être "Toshi-he" de Yutaka Takanashi. En effet, les 2 volumes qui composent l'ensemble sont à classer dans les 2 catégories qui s'opposent, avec d'un coté "Tokyo Jin" qui est un petit format simplement réalisé avec dos collé et imprimé sur un papier recyclé qui reprend la majorité des photographies, et de l'autre, l'ouvrage de grand format cartonné avec un disque de métal embossé sur la couverture dont les photographies sont reproduites en héliogravure sur un papier épais mat de qualité de couleur taupe.
We are delighted to be taking part for the first time in the Rare Books & Graphic Art Fair, which will be held from 22 to 24 September at the Grand Palais Éphémère.
We will be presenting a selection of Japanese books from the 1970s that were quickly and simply conceived, for the most part just stapled together and printed using inexpensive methods such as photocopying, with the aim of being published as soon as possible after the series was completed. A catalogue of these titles will be produced in the same spirit.
In contrast, we will bring large-format Japanese books from the same period, luxuriously crafted with a studied design.
The most emblematic book of this confrontation could be Yutaka Takanashi's "Toshi- he" by Yutaka Takanashi. Indeed, the 2 volumes of this set fall into 2 opposing categories: on the one hand, "Tokyo Jin" is a small-format book simply produced with a glued spine and printed on recycled paper, which contains most of the photographs, and on the other hand, a large-format hardback with a metal disc embossed on the cover of which the photographs are reproduced in gravure on thick, high-quality matte taupe paper.
