Since 1973 I have been making photographs in and around San Francisco ; not venturing further out into the map, taking time to scrutinize my position. I have been a stationary traveler. I carry with me neither the tourist naiveté nor the natives expertise. I am left only with a clarity that is portable because of its lightness. A stationary traveler must find his own emotional content. I, as a photographer, have attempted to become integrated into this environment. By Definition I am not. I, as a photographer, have attempted not to become integrated into this environment. By Definition I am.
