The title of this elegant and now very scarce volume translates roughly as 'the Berlin spirit' ('zeit being one of those impossible-to-translate words). In it Dijkstra's portraits are paired with Domburg's images of archetypal Berlin locations. Though concentrating on teenagers, their collaboration to produce a something like what August Sander (who also photographed landscapes in addition to his much better known portraits) set out to do earlier in the twentieth century: a collective portrait of a time and place.
