The first major japanese book to tackle the horrors of Hiroshima.

"Along with Kikuji Kawada's Chizu (The Map), Shomei Tomatsu's Nagasaki 11:02, and Domon's 1961 collaboration with Tomatsu, Hiroshima-Nagasaki Document 1961, this book remains one of the most important photographic memorials to the destruction wrought by the dropping of two atomic bombs on Japan by the U.S."--Photo-eye

"Fine gravure printing and the cover by Joan Miro seem designed to provide an international focus and lend a dignity to the horrors that are unflinchingly confronted within. The events are recorded in a careful and respectful way, as if the act of making a book could somehow begin the process of reconciliation and healing."--Parr & Badger, The Photobook: A History, Vol. 1, pp 274-275.

Hardcover under dust jacket, in a slipcase. First edition, 1958. Gravure printing. Text in japanese. Some foxed spots and traces of sunburning due to time. Binding is fine. Reproductions extremely well preserved. Beautifully printed in deep gravure with Miro's distinctive cover. Included in The Photobook by Parr & Badger, Vol. 1 pp. 274-275; The Open Book, pp. 170-171; Auer Book, p. 382. A major testimony of Hiroshima as well as a photographic achievement. Signed and stamped by Ken Domon.
