"Several years ago l wandered into a photography gallery in New York City. It was in the summer and the they was having a group show Among the works were two small black and white photographs, two bala guater by two and a quarter. One of these photographs showed the interior of a bedroom, the cans an imedara vanity with a mirror on top. Reflected in that mirror was the outstretched arm of a woman, palan open. That was all nothing more. There was a sense of emptiness in the picture and a silvery lighe dat 1 soon discovered were characteristic of this artists work. The vanity had a timeless quality as did he room itself; the only thing to mark the photograph as contemporary was a thick bracelet on the woman'sarm. The photograph was by a young photographer named Susan Paulsen. It hangs on the wall in front of me as I write."
