"This book breaks with the tradition of our previous works and reflects the great interest aroused by the study of the framework of human life, in other words "the environment", in one of its most fundamental aspects: the street. What is the street, in fact, if not the very material the city is made of? and is the city in the final analysis made of anything other than the daily life of its millions of inhabitants? A man's life would not be enough to make clear this elusive and perpetual movement which defies any global analysis."
