Setsuko — Un autre voyage sentimental

Setsuko a acquiescé.

Setsuko — Another Sentimental Journey

"In 1970, after the exhibition of my university graduation work had ended, I went out for drinks with some friends in Nakasu, Hakata.

Across the street were three young women. I spoke to them, and we went for a drink together. I was drawn to Setsuko and asked if I could photograph her, but she refused.

Later, I met her again and asked her several times. Eventually, she agreed, and I photographed her at Uminonakamichi, on a beautiful white-sand beach.

That was how our relationship began. One year later, I proposed to her.

I told her honestly that I would go to Osaka, that we would live in Kobe, and that our life ahead might be uncertain, because I wanted to become a photographer.

Setsuko nodded.

We were married in Hakata, and for our honeymoon we travelled across Japan.

From Hakata to Osaka, Kanazawa, Hakuba, Nagano, Shinshu, Magome, and back to Osaka.

During the journey, we walked across ski slopes and spent hours walking along the old roads of post towns.

I became certain that we could share the happiness of the life we were about to build together.

It was the beginning of our search for a path of our own."
