Jean-Claude Gautrand shot a series of images of the demolition of the old market hall in Paris, 'les halles de Baltard' and title is L’Assassinat de Baltard. The drama of elegant nineteenth century steel construction subjected--the very height of Modernity in its time--subjected to the relenting power of modern explosives and the chiaroscuro in the billowing dust clouds combine to create an unmistakable 'Steampunk' vibe.

Softcover, 245 x 305 mm. First edition 1972. Black & white photographs. Text in french. Included in The Photobook by Parr & Badger, vol. III., p.153. In pristine condition!!! Copy signed by Jean-Claude Gautrand.
