Peter Piller's reclassification of this mundane, yet quite beautiful and lush imagery, includes suburban houses on cul-de-sacs or near cemeteries, houses with bedding hanging from the windows like tongues, landscape designs, yards with tents in them, with swing sets, with swimming pools, people mowing their lawns or washing their cars, piles of dirt, homes under construction, as well as a collection of savings banks, the latter betraying the economic interests behind the photographs' existence. As much a typological construct as it is a fascinating panoptic glimpse, in Piller's book the images are not consecutively arranged according to his 23 classifications ; as such, viewers can choose to scrutinize freely the photographs and begin to draw their own conclusions about their similarities, differences, subjects and meanings.
