An impressive survey of early work by this student of Daido Moriyama. "Photography is procedural and I take photographs of what attracts me," Onaka has said. "Later this manifests itself as interests. The subconscious is at play, the work acts as a reminder of what I’m interested in--it’s what caught my eye. There’s not something in particular that is my subject. It becomes a process of self-discovery...Free associations are a very important part of my work, so there is a definite overlap with cinema."--Koji Onaka, in ASX Interviews Koji Onaka (2013) – Drifting Free on a 'Twin Boat'.
