A collection of photographs by Katsu Naito, documenting the transvestite and transsexual street-walkers of New York’s Meatpacking District in the early 1990s. The 45 images, largely portraits, intimately capture the unexpected beauty of the subject’s day-to-day lives. Naito does not pass judgement, rather observes, and it is evident that he is trusted by his subjects. Street-walkers of all races and backgrounds, each with a different story to tell, are photographed in their immediate environment, the empty streets of “West Side” New York.
