The new artist's book by Iris Andraschek shows the self-determined, near-natural and alternative way of life of a group of people in Canada. The pictures, taken in 2002 and 2010, oscillate between reality and fiction and show an almost fairytale-like communitas as a utopian counter-draft to the constraints of industrial societies with their regimes of work, leisure and consumption. The series from 2002 was created during a residency in Durham, Ontario. In 2010, the artist travelled there again to complete this work and to photograph some of the protagonists and the place again at a certain distance in time.
Iris Andraschek, *1963 in Horn, Austria. Lives and works in Vienna and Lower Austria, Austria.
