During the 1970's, New York City was close to bankruptcy and there was barely any money for people in need. The homeless community relied on one another and their addiction, whether it was alcohol or drugs, to keep them going. Many united on the Bowery, a two way street that runs north-south starting from Astor Place. While some chose to hide their impurities to protect their dignity, others shamelessly displayed theirs on the Bowery. This photo book paints a picture of what life was like for the addicts in the Lower East Side during the early 70's, with the help from quotes by members of this community.
