For this Photographic Essay, Irving Penn was inspired by Diana Vreeland's "The Tens, The Twenties, The Thirties: Inventive Clothes, 1909-1939" at The Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute and the clothes from the 10s, 20s, and 30's. He produced, then, this collection of photographs displaying work of fashion designers such as Paul Poiret, Madeleine Vionnet or Elsa Schiaparelli.
