"I am [...] the pioneer of chaos, because nothing can be born but chaos".
From the early 1960s to the mid-1990s in Communist Czechoslovakia, Miroslav Tichý created an obsessive photographic oeuvre based around the female figure, reinventing photography from scratch on the fringes of any artistic movement. His images, captured instinctively or automatically using approximate lenses and cameras cobbled together from discarded materials, offer an extraordinary, eroticised and dreamlike reality: they reveal an unusual artist, marked by classical pictorial influences, but whose method sometimes resembles certain amateur practices and 'outsider' art.
First shown in 2004, Miroslav Tichy's unclassifiable, timeless photographs are a testament to his singular talent.
This catalogue is the first work on the artist available in French.
