For the first Kominek Residency the invited Photographer Antony Cairns arrived in Berlin with a large stock of unused papers and materials from his previous fabrications of handmade books such as LPT, OSC and LDN3. Alongside the special materials sourced by Kominek, Cairns has managed to create something that is a cross between a handmade artist book and a customised photographic Portfolio. The content of this Portfolio/artist book is rooted in his practice of creating images of the city in his unique way by using experimental black and white photographic processes. For the creation of Nightcity Nightcity Nightcity Cairns' philosophy of investigating the boundaries of process has continued and become a key factor in creating the book. During the residency, recycled inks and toners were used with vintage lazer and inkjet printers. Printer settings were inverted, reset chips utilised and copy machines were pushed to the limit of their original use.

The original binding and variety of papers reflect the artist's experimental work.
