These photographs were taken in Vietnam in 2019 and 2020.
Since I was eighteen, I have been traveling with a camera, and forty
years after I began, I continue in the same way.
Although my memories faded over time, the current ambience I feel on the streets of Vietnam is like that in the Japan of my childhood, that I experienced in my early twenties when I just began to travel, and also much like that in Bangkok, Thailand, back in the day when I would always make a stop there to buy a discount airline ticket to wherever I was headed.
With 60 percent of the population under thirty years of age, modern-day Vietnamese cities are chaotic like cities in the Showa era in Japan. They are buzzing with people everywhere, gratifying me wherever I wander.
Having a camera to mediate between the world and myself, I can lose track of time, particularly when I'm faithful to my feelings. It is then that I fully savor the experience of being alive.
