When he arrived in Paris, Josef Koudelka had already produced two major photographic collections. One showed the crushing of the Prague Spring by Soviet tanks; the other could have been described as ethnological if his images of Gypsies had not been so emotionally charged.
Unknown in 1970, he was already one of the most powerful photographers of his time. This book proves that, in the lands of exile he travelled through with his characteristic rage, Koudelka's unique talent was definitively established and flourished.
