“Last year, I went to Japan on my own for two months to work on my final-year dissertation at Gobelins. I documented my life by creating portraits of everyone I met, either in person or via Instagram. I turned it into a book at the end of the year, and this summer I went back there to take new photographs,” explains Jeanne Narquin. Deeply attached to this country, which she first discovered as a child on a trip, the photographer sought to get as close as possible to the local people. “These are portraits of people I spent time with, whether for an evening or several days,” she explains. In a style reminiscent of fashion editorials, the subjects strike a pose, sometimes outdoors, sometimes in their homes. “I mainly photograph women and I also work primarily with film. What interests me is capturing a sense of intimacy, a presence in the gaze or in the light,” she concludes.
