Fashion Magazine is the annual publication of the renowned Magnum Photos agency, each issue of which is entrusted to one of its most brilliant photographers.

The 2010 edition features the work of Italian photographer Paolo Pellegrin (Rome, 1964), who joined Magnum in 2005.

The dichotomy between the natural and the artificial provides the key to understanding the photographer’s work, in which images captured in the fashion world highlight the contrast between the natural character of the human body and the artifice of designers’ creations.

The same concept is evident on a larger scale when observing the world through Pellegrin’s images. Unfolding before our eyes is an ever-changing landscape in which vast natural settings alternate with the entirely artificial panoramas of cities and metropolises, which sometimes find themselves at the mercy of nature once again, as shown in the photographs of the 2005 New Orleans floods.

This evocative exploration leads to a reflection on the respect that nature demands and the need for truly sustainable development.
