Author is symbolizing post-war Japanese society as a tree planted in 1945, but in 1968 when he started to shoot the photos in this book, he wrote he found the tree roots were already exposed from the ground surface, so that you could see it still rooted down on nothing different from the pre-war principles that formed this nation. (briefly summarized from 'Appeal' of the book).

Hardcover with acetate jacket as issued, 225 x 195 mm. First edition, 1973. Gravure printing. Text in japanese. In great condition. Reproductions very well preserved. Extremely scarce copy. A very nice unknown japanese photobook.Like new condition!!
