The book is part of Shuttle 99, a Nordic - South African cultural exchange initiated by the Nordic countries. Shortly after South Africa's first democratic elections in 1994, Nelson Mandela expressed the wish that the Nordic countries continue to play an active role in South Africa by fostering mutual cultural relationships.The projects aim to establish lasting contacts between individuals and institutions, and include activities within dance, literature, music, photography, theatre, video and visual arts education.
