This book brought together for the first time Andujar's photographs taken during the time she lived in Yanomami villages. The black and white photos, often taken in the very little light of the malocas and the forest, record hunting, shamanistic rituals, and the daily life of Yanomami groups.
"Between 1971 and 1977 I stayed there. Eventually I would come back here, but my life was there. After that I was expelled by Funai and the military, so I had to go back to São Paulo. In 1978 I had to start my life over here. It was very difficult in the beginning. That was when I started to edit this work to make a book, which came out the same year as Amazonas [done in partnership with George Love]. I was trying to put in the book who the Yanomami are".
