The book that heralds a happy summer!
Holidays in Italy! It's a powerful, joyful, eternal desire, reinforced by films, songs and novels.
It's also a colour that blends the sky and the sea in a sun that warms our happy memories of travel, encounters, idleness and love at the seaside.
This is the new book by Claude Nori that we've been waiting for since Un été Italien, which has been out of print for nearly twenty years. It includes his well-known images, as well as new colour photographs accompanied by a narrative in which he recounts the particularly optimistic atmosphere of the 70s and 80s, as well as his approach and his photobiographical approach, of which he was one of the forerunners.
Claude Nori established his reputation with his photographs of the seaside, the sensuality of beautiful Italian women, his art of framing to capture teenage love and the dynamism of youth, the thirst for happiness in which hides a touch of melancholy and creative nostalgia.
From 1982 onwards, I decided to photograph the Italian seasides, those where I had been happy with my parents, but also those that were unknown to me, mythical destinations and towns with evocative names - Capri, Naples, Portofino, San Remo or Stromboli - for which songs had been written or which had been used as backdrops for films. I realised that the particular territory of the seaside, the activity that took place on the beach in summer, was truly a concentrate of Italian culture, a ritual through which its art of living was most forcefully expressed.
