This "TOKYO FASHION STORY" has initiated with an intention of analyzing the latest fashion photography which have preciously publicized in some ways from those indicated Tokyo-style magazines (or ones inspired from them). While the pho-tographers, starting from Takashi Homma, who had appeared in the mid-90s, presented their work through exhibitions or books one after another and established one's position, on the other hand, there's another intention to observe the photos which have been produced within a rapid consumptive speed.

Therefore, in this exhibition or the catalogues those indispensable photographers from the '90s, such as previously noticed Kyoji Takahashi, Itaru Hirama, Kazunari Tajima, Takashi Homma, HIROMIX, Yurie Nagashima, Katsumi Omori, are not men-tioned. It is due to my own policy to target on" the most progressive photographers" in magazine media of the present moment when " street culture" has calmed down. In the spring of '98, the adventures consisting with photography of young generations are chosen from perspectives of the most exposed photographers, collaborations, the approach to fashion from writer-like perspectives, boyish not girly point of view, the new "approach to commercial photography" colors, artificiality and reality.

Perhaps, there would be both con's and pro's on my choice. If it wasn't myself, but somebody else  had curated works with the same theme, there might have existed totally different "TOKYO FASHION STORY" and also I feel that I would like to witness somebody else's "story"

When dealing with piles of exhibited photos which can possibly thrown away tomorrow, they bring acquaintances to indefinite story pieces which don't attach to one big story. Are they the " fragments" of consumption or are they the'seeds "of the future? If this procedure should be assumed as a realization towards completion, pictures can becomes, in fact, schizophrenically transformed and establish its own historical personality as a photography. This time I had interviewed photographers who have participated in this exhibition, and some have claimed that they wouldn't know yet if they would keep shooting for the rest of their lives. Even the word "photographer"and its existence have already been on the process of transgression. It wouldn't even be necessary to stick to one's originality or concept.

When it comes to the continuous moment- to-moment transformation, it can be said that the more of alashion" scene has never existed.

Moreover, the sensation would become more intricate and polished. Delicate differences would become more of the "self" The refinement of sensa-tions, depth, variety, pathology, reality, all the " pre-sent" and the " next" have been vividly shown within these eleven fashion photographers.
