Through a careful selection of their images, their presence at social demonstrations, the training of community health workers, everyday moments at home and their reinterpretation, I seek to capture not only the significant moments of community life, but also the experiences and emotions of my own childhood, lived amid resistance and its silences. From this dual perspective, that of the girl I once was and the adult who questions today. I explore the bond with my parents, the memory of a disputed territory, and who I became amidst those images, shaped by historical events and their resonance in the present. This book emerged from an exploration of my parents’ photographic archive; they were a couple of doctors who helped build a community health system in Chiapas, both before and after the uprising of the Zapatista National Liberation Army (EZLN) in 1994. In consonance with its theme, the book experiments with printing on various types of paper commonly used in Mexico, each with its own distinct characteristics—different weights, textures, and imperfections—that enhance the narrative it constructs.
