Fumiaki Fukuda's little-known photos capture one of those sui generis pop history moments that can only happen in Japan: the 1960s Shinkjuku biker gangs, whose flamboyant style echoed that of Brando, Dean and Belmondo. Fukuda is basically a 'beat' photo-reporter covering what was then a fairly edgy and sensational sub-culture that was not without occasional violence. His style is equal parts Weegee, Provoke, Danny Lyon and Larry Clark--a totally singular book!
